It gets back to mindset. Dave doesn't buy a $1 or $4.99 stock Some only deal with S&P 500. I think a EPS and RS>80 is way to go, majority of my trades are under $20. We are limited in time and tools to make tests more realistic. All tests reflect reinvestment of profits into the next trade and or they exlude you from adding capital on next buy. All this is not real life, but I have never heard of a system testthat opens all these things up to modeling life. So we have a Relative picture. I keep about 3000 active in database. ever run a 3000 system scan? What if I kept 9000? But I will assure you a good system will give you buys and sells off a BBB type stock. The information available to us now allows us 2000% jumps VS five years ago much less 28 years ago. Computers/internets/Discount brokers ! what a difference. And it will only get better.
