Bush has handled the China crisis exactly right. That is questionable. The Secretary of State should have called his counterpart before the military brass started "demanding" that the plane be not entered and that the plane and crew be returned. Quiet, private diplomacy at the outset rather than public criticism and demands could have avoided the present stalemate. Mistakes were made.
