Warning to BC parents of teenage boys!! If you have trouble getting him to go to sleep now (and don’t we all?) DO NOT let him read page 277 in the BC Health Guide when he goes to bed. Y'know, the medical book trinket the provincial government picked up for us for 22 million BC dollarettes while they were down shopping in Boise, Idaho.

On page 277 they describe a painful condition called “testicular torsion” and its gruesome symptoms and consequences (removal) that “...can occur at any age, but it is most common in young boys...it often has no specific cause and may occur while a boy is sleeping.”.

Whoah!

I was looking for the most boring book in the house for Jonny, my son, to read to lull himself off to sleep and gave him the Health Guide. In his natural curiousity, I guess he immediately went to the naughty bits because it wasn’t long before I heard him holler for me in a much higher voice than he’s had for months.

Naturally, I told him I had never heard of it ever happening to anyone I’ve ever known, ever. We decided it was just a way for the government to get young-men-to-be used to sleepless nights.

Back in the Saddle Again,
Lenny
