I was doing some research in land records today, and touched base with one of the old title examiners. He said biz had picked up a little since two months ago but it was mostly refis, no new sales. He said he was seeing false confidence - but title examiners live sort of in an artificial environment so I don't always pay attention to the fancy words.

I paid my office rent today, a little late, and touched base with my landlord (commercial real estate attorney). He says it's grim, nothing out there, credit drying up.

Had lunch yesterday with a general practice attorney, he says his practice is dead.

I share space with a bankruptcy attorney, his secretary says they are swamped.

I am getting a lot of calls from people who think they may have wrongful discharge suits. But Virginia is "employment at will" so without a written contract they only have recourse if their civil rights were violated. I am getting tired of explaining this so am not taking the calls anymore.

As for me, I am busier than ever. When times are bad, everyone wants to sue.
