ahahaa: re: ["the coup de grace is "walking down" (the US Dollar.]

Well ah-ha; It's a fundamental necessity as pointed out by a vast array of economic, political & market observers.

I think this quote from the FT article alludes rather clearly to the CONCEPT of "walking down the US Dollar" - ie: a slow descent vs a rapid collapse.

O'Neill has allready let slip - the Bush Admin's Dollar policy - ie: "a strong currency (US Dollar) is the NATURAL byproduct of a strong economy" - the keyword there being - 'natural" vs. a stabilized, an interventionist and/or a manipulated currency.

The stress fractures that the present US Dollar is creating in US Corporate profits, let alone other global currencies & economies from Turkey to Argentina is obvious.

That the initial flight to safety haven during this bubble collapse is the US Dollar is expected; but just as the S&P, then finally the DOW have fallen; the US Dollar will become the last & final shoe to drop in the unwinding of this bubble.

This is one of the easiest - ahead of the curve; market opportunities in years. Gold is emerging from a broad cyclical bottom just as an unparalleled equity & credit bubble collapses.

Here's yet another quote addressing the concept of a gradual descent vs. a collapse of the US dollar & it's obvious necessity...

[[But the window will not be open for ever. And as Paul Donovan, international
economist at UBS Warburg, says: "A 10 per cent decline in the dollar over the next
six months would be advantageous. A 10 per cent drop in the next 24 hours would
be a crisis." ]]

... where do you think Gold will be with a 10% decline in the US Dollar ?

Actually I like Silver (stocks) as much, if not more than Gold here... not too much profitable production globally in this price environment.... just as the cure for $10 Oil - was $10 Oil; the cure for $4 Silver - is $4 Silver...
