Ian,

Let me qualify my statements. By "getting tough," I mean that China should not be allowed to conduct business as usual. Gaining entrance into the WTO or being rewarded with the 2008 Olympics are two of the things they should not even be considered for until their record on human right improves dramatically. I am not for any military posturing(ie. placing our Battleships off their coast) unless Taiwan is threatened, in which case we, along with all nations have a duty to protect them. The law of the jungle(Might makes right) has no place in 21st Century politics and they need to be told so.
