10:38 BST Alcatel repeats expectation of handset industry consolidation from FT Marketwatch
Alcatel (fr:013000), the French telecoms equipment maker, reiterated on Thursday that it's "not necessarily" 100 percent committed to mobile phone manufacturing, Reuters reported. Speaking at the Anglo-American Press Association in Paris, Alcatel's chairman Serge Tchuruk said his company was ready to be an active player in the consolidation of the mobile phone making industry, according to Reuters. The reported comments follow an interview in the Financial Times last month when Tchuruk said that he didn't see Alcatel (us:ala) as a long-term strategic player in the handset market and that Alcatel had a good hand to play in any industry consolidation. Alcatel's handset unit accounts for 7 percent of group revenue. Shares in Alcatel were 3.8 percent higher at €33.1 in Paris.
