We are not letting them get away with anything. But both sides saving face here is good for all of us. Powell statement of regret about their pilot, and that regret should be genuine, even if he was flying dangerously, can be taken by them as an apology and by us as a true statement. It is possible you know that our people turned into him, either on purpose or by accident. Shit happens! Chinese didnt bomb their own embassy in Belgrade you know! I am playing devils advocate here. Chinese leaders betrayed their own people big-time at Tiannemen but chinese people are behind them on foreign policy matters--there is strong nationalism in china which perpetuates their leadership. That is why a reasonable approach is needed. Bush is doing good so far.
