A few years ago I happend to be in BC and not too far from the Adam's River when the Sockeye were doing the spawn -- so many fish in the water and so many dead on the bank.

It is quite interesting to see ... I can't remember how far upstream they travel, but it was several hundred miles from the ocean ...
