John, without regard to whether or not anyone here has spammed, spamming is defined as Stupid Persons Advertising Message. Specifically that means mass-promotion of any product or service or web-site, whether "free" or not free. Here at Silicon Investor, mass promotion means copying the same message to many different threads. Spamming is against SI rules, and violators who are caught will have all their messages diligently deleted, and then they will be permanently banned from SI.

One spammer I caught on a Saturday several months ago had 2 different newsletters he was promoting. One of them he posted on 158 different threads before he was reported (by me - *proud smile*) and caught (I lost track counting them: the count was given to me by SI). I received the effusive gratitude of the SI webmasters.

Don't kid yourself, it is an "open forum", but remember SI is a privately run organization, and they darn well can and do make limits on what you can post. See "Terms of Use" button in the middle your "reply" screen.
