The Chinese don't need to fly up and down our coast. We have an open society -- they can go anywhere they want to except actually onto military bases. But they can get a lot closer to our bases than we can to theirs. They involve themselves in our political process, giving to certain candidates (illegally, but that doesn't seem to bother them) and getting all sorts of favors, information, technology, etc, in return. Their students come to our universities and get highly sophisticated training in our most advanced technologies--universities supported in large part by tax dollars and charitable giving. They have spies in our most sensitive establishments. No, they have no need for the crudities of staying a hundred miles offshore and trying to figure out what we're up to.
