Well first of all John you used the word "logic" and it has no place in application of the IRC. :-)

Now to the others.

1) "I pay you in stacks of paper"

If the stacks of paper are worthless then I have to report "no income".

2) "embossed metal slugs"

Again, what is the Fair Mkt Value of the slugs? What can I sell them for when I receive them. Whatever that price might be becomes my income to report.

3) "the pieces of paper had Andrew Jackson "

Yes, I know that is the trap you are trying to lead me into with your "staged" logic. VBG...

The piece of paper with Andrew Jackson has a "stated" or "fixed" FMV.(Whether you agree with it or not and whether it is really worth it or not is irrevelant in the application of the law)

4) And here you are trying to close the trap door. :-)

"Then how does this extrapolate to coin metal of any sort or denomination"

Beats my queens.
