EU says Intel probe focusing on loyalty rebates
BRUSSELS, April 6 (Reuters) - A European Commission probe into U.S. computer chip giant Intel (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) is focusing on loyalty rebates and possible exclusive purchasing requirements on personal computer makers and retailers, a Commission spokeswoman said on Friday.

``There's nothing wrong with loyalty rebates when they are not granted by a company which is in a dominant position. Intel is in a dominant position, therefore it must be careful what it does,'' Amelia Torres told a news briefing.

The Commission -- the European Union's antitrust watchdog -- said on Friday it was investigating whether Intel was abusing a dominant position in the market for Windows-capable microprocessors.
