Hi Rarebird, I am assuming you guys welcome my participation in this ongoing discussion. If not, say so, and I am gone, as this is not my natural home thread.

This is a good example of what passes for strategic thinking by the same sort of folks that got US into other jungles:

<<"This incident is cementing support behind providing Taiwan the weapons it needs," said Rep. Rohrabacher. "It also opens the door for the United States' providing weapons to countries like the Philippines who may also be threatened by Communist China.">>

PRC agents will be preparing to issue payments to Philippine officers so as to make a copy of whatever Philippines is gifted with by the US, as Philippines will surely not be able to pay for any of the goodies.

No, the days of such allies being effective are over, because such allies were never effective. Should the Philippines get involved, it will be consumed, and they know it. So many Muslims in the Philippines requiring gifts of cheaper and more practical weapons like AK47s and plastic bombs.

I do not know much about South Vietnam, but I have lived in the Philippines for 18 months. Rambos they are not.

Chugs, Jay
