OT Gene, I don't know about you but I am hoping we bomb the heck out of China. Then we would have something to apologize for. This would lead to a nearly certain WW3; I don't believe anyone wishes for that. But you raise a fundamental question; how will the Chinese communist regime change? No ruthless dictator ever "converted" to being a good guy as far as I can tell. And the current regime is ruthless in every sense of the word. They should not be even considered for things such asentrance into the WTO until their record on human rights changes dramatically for the better(as if it could get any worse!) By starting this stupid hostage crisis, I believe China has assured that Taiwan will not only get defensive weaponry, but the assistance of the west should China decide they want to force Taiwan into their fold. I cannot see them getting the '08 games at this point. And neither WTO or MFN status is a sure thing. Nobody ever said dictators were smart! BK
