Way OT Even at the time, I viewed two American foreign policy events as being tremendous successes, and got a lot of flack for it. 1) Allowing the USSR to get involved with Cuba. Nationalism prevented any Soviet takeover, and the USSR support contributed to their financial collapse. 2) Withdrawal from Sukarno and Indonesia. The bloody Suharto revolt from Sukarno's communist regime also was a huge financial loss to the USSR. Later, our third foreign policy victory: 3) Withdrawal from Viet Nam. Look at how eagerly they look to Western markets now. Just trade with China, and greed will dominate. It is my contention that US imperialism, as exemplified by Disney, McDonalds, and Coca-cola are more powerful than any military intervention. Military intervention, as we learned from Viet Nam, is costly in terms of lives and money and is enormously destructive to everyone. Who could resist Mickey Mouse? fred
