Tim, I know you're familiar with StarFleet's Prime Directive. That's what X is talking about, I think. One autonomous entity doesn't barge in and impose itself on another autonomous entity. Period.

Karen, before I replied I looked at the two responses to your post. Neocon covered my thoughts pretty well. I don't think governments have a special privileged moral status IMO. You say "one autonomous entity doesn't barge in and impose itself on another autonomous entity", but to an extent we are all autonomous entity and any law or regulation (let alone slavery) is an example of one autonomous entity imposing itself on another. True we are not completely autonomous but neither are nation states.
