Dear Ted:

Go down to the library and look up what apology means to an oriental culture. Then look up what regret means to that culture. Finally look up what "face" means. By insisting on something they do not deserve, they are losing face. The longer it lasts, the more they lose. Yes, it takes time, but they started it, thinking we are inexperienced in oriental culture.

That gamble is not paying off as they hoped as the Bush team is far smarter than they gave credit for (probably listening to people like Scumbria). And now it is going to start hurting their "face" or prestige. There are still some ways to get out of this with little damage for them but the amount of damage that will be left over is climbing fast. Just notice how they are toning down they retoric lately.
