Right now we are not having blackouts but we were at a stage 2 power alert over the last couple of days. Our Gov just gave a short update yesterday and outlined his plans.

Conservation is the best combatant at this phase and is the only thing that will help during the summer months. There is a water shortage in the Northwest and I hear that even Idaho is importing energy right now. The water shortage affects the hydroelectric generators.

We will have a price increase but I don't know how much at this time cause I need to hear more about the actual change. From what I have heard, the largest energy users will get the biggest increase. The Gov stated that 50% of the state won't have an increase in rates. I think the increase in rates depends on how much each household conserves. They are trying to get people to be more conscious of conserving and to change the time when they use power to the non-peak use hours.

Many people are not happy about the Gov's proposal because it puts all the charge back onto the backs of the citizens and not the energy barons that have purposely put a chokehold on the state. Many people believe that all our state politicians were bought by the energy lobbyists back in 1996 when the deregulation bill was passed.

One of the problems is that on and off some of our generators go off-line and are shut down for a few days. This always results in a few blackouts. I heard this morning that a nuclear power plant is shut down now so I expect there will be some blackouts soon. If you get "blacked out" you are only out for about 1.5 to 2 hours. The energy barons ( strong Bush buddies) are using the OPEC business model of reducing the production in order to get the demand higher...thus an increase in price.

I have not been in a blackout yet and just got put on a grid with the local police station so I won't lose power!.Lucky for me! LOL

Contrary to popular belief among Republicans, the deregulation bill was authored by Republicans and passed by
a Republican legislature then signed by a Republican Gov. All the Democrats signed the bill also so it was passed unanimously. There will be a list of every politician that signed the bill up on the KGO.com website soon. Many citizens are refusing to vote for ANY politician who voted for the bill back in 1996. Some are still in office but we do have term limits out here.....2 terms limit for each office, so some may no longer be in power.
