Com21 Closes Wireless Business Unit

Company to Continue Selling and Supporting Wireless ComUNITY Access(R)
Products

MILPITAS, Calif., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Com21, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMTO - news), a leading global provider of
system solutions for the broadband access market, announced today that it will close down its Wireless
Business Unit. The business unit, with 19 employees in the Milpitas headquarters and in the Long Island
Development Center in New York, specializes in next-generation Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service
(MMDS) technology, and is a primary contributor to the recently adopted IEEE 802.16a draft standard for
MMDS networks. Com21 announced in January that it planned to spin off the group into a separate company,
but would close down the business unit if it were unable to secure funding.

``Clearly we are disappointed,'' commented Craig Soderquist, Com21 president and CEO. ``As we mentioned in
January, Com21 is focusing on our core strengths and improving operating results, and this move-while
difficult-aligns with that commitment.''

``Com21 will continue to sell and support our ComUNITY Access wireless products. Thanks to the hard work
of the talented wireless division, we have generated interest from a number of potential cable customers since
the launch of our first generation product last year,'' stated John Langley, general manager of the Wireless
Business Unit. ``This wireless group has significant upside potential, and it is unfortunate that current
economic conditions have forced this decision.''
