My peculiar stance is based on the fact that I do not consider countries or conceptual entities to hold rights.

Countries are similar to corporation in that they exist as entities independent of the people in them. Countries are invited to participate in the Olympics, not individuals. Countries belong to the UN. Countries issue passports. Countries are declared to be countries based upon the recognition of other countries. There was discussion on this thread about "chicoms" where the user of the word meant the country as distinct from its people.

I don't see the point of another debate about the meaning of rights. A country is a discrete entity, rights notwithstanding. If you were designing a data base for this subject, there would be a file called country with a unique identifier and descriptors. If you were designing a map, the countries would be shown in different colors. A country is a discrete entity.
