For some reason, this point brought to mind yesterday's discussion where CH and Zonkie were suggesting that our plane should have crashed into the sea with a loss of 24 lives to protect our country from an international incident rather than land in China.

If we knew that we would go to war with China over this incident or that war was going to happen at some point any way and that the knowlege from the plane would give China some sort of advantage that would result in more then 24 additional Americans being killed then I might agree with the point (by Zonkie was it?) but in reality rather then that hypothetical I don't.

Military personel are a special case as they do swear an oath to their country, but I certainly would not have ordered them to die rather then land on China if I was in charge in this situation. I might have ordered them to take some risks or taken the risks myself if I was in charge on the plane (even the landing in China was a risk and its not like they are at 0 risk now), but not near certain death.
