<<<To resolve the problem, restart the computer to MS-DOS mode and run Ndd.exe.>>>
er... i think Bombay is in order, since I don't know how to do either of the above. But I will have these posts to paste as explanation, so am grateful.
You mentioned enditall-- I installed that on Feb 23, the last time I raised this problem here and it was suggested. I spent a long time trying to figure out what to do after I'd installed it, and failed. I know many readers of this think that either I am very stupid or not trying. It isn't the latter. (And it isn't that I don't read Manuals. It is that I read them with very depressing incomprehension. There are steps left out. There really are. There are people reading this who know that's true. Then there are those who already know the steps so think they aren't left out. (I took a beginner's computer course. When, frustrated, I asked the teacher to do what he said the manual would do by following the manual, he usually couldn't without adding steps that were just too obvious to the manual writers to put in. That's why I have the nerve to say this here.) )
I clicked on enditall again (it says "C:/My Download Files") just now and got
"Click the program you want to use to open enditall.zip"
I never know when I get this what to choose. Notepad works sometimes. Usually, though, when I get this, and click on various programs, I get code. Lotsa teeny squares amongst various letters, mainly. I got that this time when I used Notepad. When I clicked Internet Explorer, I got a Real Download Express window saying, after 5 tries, "Error Host Not Found."
It was failure at enditall, appropriately enough, that ended it all last time I tried to hang out with you geniuses in hope some would rub off on me. No luck at all, lol.
But before I skulk off again, let me list the programs that show up when i do cntl alt del:
Explorer Sysdoc32 Monwow Csinsm32 Realplay Msmsgs Iowatch Poproxy Navapw32 Point32 Systray Robot Nprotect Csinject Imgicon
Are there any of these I can get rid of, do you think?
And I printed out this long post of yours to concentrate on when I can. Thank you so much!
EDIT:
This is already what I always do, since I was here last and you told me to. (But i'm getting the locked utility message anyway):
1. Close all programs that are on the taskbar. The taskbar is usually at the bottom of the screen that displays the Start button and the time. 2. On the right side of the taskbar, near the time, are items that are in the System Tray, also known as Systray. Disable or close the programs that allow you to do so. 3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Close Program dialog box. 4. For each item listed except Explorer and Systray, select the item, and then click End Task. You will need to re-open the Close Program dialog box after closing each program. 5. After you have closed all programs except Explorer and Systray, try running the Norton Utilities program." |
