Dear Scumbria:

Where have you been? In the clouds? Off planet? Sick?

There is a big difference between a covert operation and the current public state of affairs. What can be done in private is much more than will ever be acknowledged to the public at large. China made this into a public spectacle by demanding things it should not have. This matter could have been dealt with quickly and efficiently in private and China after getting private assurances (as long as they stay that way) could have let the crew and plane go free magnanamously, and so forth. But, now a different set of rules comes into play. These rules call for great deliberative actions, posturing, and all the things that cause great delays and international incidents. Any harm to the crew and the spew hits the fan, big time! Otherwise, we will have to wait it out as the process goes forward.

Spy business is private and this is not, anymore.

Pete
