In hindsight, you are right about the lower risk strategy. However, in this situation Bob's the professional and HE KNOWS THAT. In fact, he has blasted people on his show when they didn't listen to him on this and that an opportunity.

If you're going to sell financial advice, then you should make it appropriate for your audience. This trade was:

1. via snail mail
2. counter to the market trend
3. for conservative investors even (i.e. probably retired)
4. without a stop
5. with the entry range lowered
6. with the target range lowered
7. with the timeframe extended repeatedly
8. undated
9. without a set entry price
10. for a huge % of your portfolio
11. not included in his "model" portfolios
12. the reason he booted subscribers from the bulletin boards and the newsletter
13. incredibly high risk
14. based on a basket of stocks with a huge p/e and massively overinflated prices

In hindsight it all makes perfect sense. At the time it didn't seem this bad because Bob has been such an apparently conservative adviser. He preached on and on about capital preservation in a bear market. He talked endlessly about the CTR in the summer.

In retrospect, this was insane but Bob is the pro here. Who would have thought he would have advised such an unbelievably risky, highly inappropriate, insanely volatile trade with guidance delivered through snail mail?

Live, learn but warn others.
