CPX is a big old Canadian company, used to be called Odeon Theatres a
long time ago. It's been spending a lot of money upgrading its movie
houses so hasn't posted a profit in some time. Revenues last year were
between 500 and 600 million. Seagram Corporation bought the biggest
block of stock, and the Bronfman family bought the second biggest block.
CPX is currently upgrading and expanding its theatre complexes and also
building more theatres, but the big gun is the Cinescapes that they're
building: they're supposed to make even the Navy Pier Imax deal look
like peanuts. Last I checked, the price target is 7, but that's just
an opinion of some of the anaylysts who follow it. At any rate, under
2...I'd say you can't lose. Anyway, you guys are sitting on a fortune
with this RAIN stock so you can afford to take a little chance. It's
just my opinion but I've owned CPX for a couple of years (bought at 2,
sold at 4 1/4, bought back at 1 1/4) and I feel pretty strongly that
this is a decent investment and not too speculative. If you're interested
in it, send for the Annual and check it out thoroughly. I think you'll
agree that this is a pretty cheap stock.
