Hi Joe, thank you for stirring the pot and your point that government makes the rules for everyone else but themselves.
When utopian politians use a powerful and emotional charged word like "compassion", big red flags goes up in my head. It is really foolish to make laws that catagorize people (e.g."Category-2 condition") and then have special "designated growers". Should marijuana be made legal (remember most politians are lawyers) for selected groups, knowing our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, I would predict that in no time flat this marijuana law will be found unconstitutional for its prejudices. Then I bet the real agenda unfolds, making marijuana legal will happen.
But coming back to your point. I would say my present position is that marijuana proponents should fall in line without special Allan Rock skirt wagging. They should organize, raise millions & millions of dollars, go public so there is real public scrutiny, do the required government prescribed safety and effiacy studies, wait 10 years so that HC gets the chance to ask for more details, then pay mega taxes like all of us. This shouldn't be too hard to do, I also bet the Chief and others will be willing clinical and market participants <ggg>.
"encourage all to write your MP "
First, I have fired of an email to 18 friends, some are medical doctors, pharmacist, health care people and legal and political spheres for knowledge, information, and moral and ethical advice. I definitely will be writing my MP and others well before the 30 day dead line.
[Edit: Now that I'm in my bear mood. Rebecca has from time to time spoke about playing by the rules with regulators. Here is a perfect example how special interest groups can get laws made for their industries, bypassing all government regs that others follow which cost them money, and these groups may also get free tax payer money to setup shop (designated growers my foot! fungoff). Our little company needs some political pr.]
RE: Ottawa to legalize marijuana for severe arthritis
I would encourage all to write your MP with this information. Regardless of your views on the legalization of marijuana (I know there are likely a few hippies at heart out there), this is an outrage! Ask your MP (no Jef, not military police) to provide the statistically significant clinical trial data that shows the safety and efficacy of marijuana to treat arthritis.
Here we have a Canadian biotech/pharma that has developed one of the safest and most effective OA medications in the world, and our application is collecting dust at Health Canada, while they approve illegal narcotics with no data at all supporting its clinical benefits/risks.
I'm sure the only efficacy evidence for marijuana is some long haired scientist at Health Canada taking a deep drag and exclaiming, "WHOA-MAC, this is good $hit!"
Most seriously,
