hi frank

it's encouraging to read that you are back in good shape. driveimage sounds like it came to your rescue by enabling you to restore the w98 image. it has saved my butt once, too.

if you don't mind my asking, i have a couple questions for you concerning your recent dilemma. your answers will help me determine the validity of the advice i gave you, so please help me out.

did you try using nav rescue disks, per #reply-15631877 ?

and what about your win2000pro emergency repair disk, and the (4) win2000pro setup disks, per #reply-15631904 ? the emergency repair disk is supposed to be for recovering a system that won't load win2000. did you try it? did it work?

although i installed w2k and dual boot it with w98se, i have never had to recover w2k. i have felt pretty good about relying upon the disks mentioned above, should such an emergency arise... but i would still like to gather as much first hand info on their use as i possibly can.

i can tell you that in addition to having used di once to restore w98se (as mentioned above), i also used the nav rescue disks once to repair w98se when it would not boot, and it wasn't due to a virus.

:)
