I think it's scary to think that there may be a HUGE group of people in America who are too intellectually lazy, or too slow, to figure out that they can save maybe $100 a month by switching providers. I have Earthlink at the moment, and the service is not at all hard to figure out, even though it's only $19.95 a month. I hope this is not true. I have observed that everyone I know who goes online more than about 5 hours a month can certainly figure this out once they get their first AOL bill. Also, I have read some analysis that suggests that most Americans who ever intended to get computers for home--computer literate, comparatively upscale income, more highly educated, or with children who are college bound--already have them. Lots of people aren't interested in being online--they have different interests. I really wonder how large the market is for people who have never had an online service but intend to sign on within the next six months. Has anyone read anything about this subject?
