Supposing you did any of those things, that would be very nice. On the other hand, if we are not supposed to impose our values on others, what matter if it is privately done, or done by our government. And if it okay to champion the rights of foreign individuals, why should it preclude diplomatic action?

The point is that we shouldn't impose our values on others. Slavery is an extreme example to illustrate the principle--we should at least take a moment to consider if they want to be freed before we ride in on our white horse to save them. That's all.

I realize that a small portion of the population operates off of principle. I don't expect to convert any pragmatists. I just feel like I need to wave the principle flag every now and again.
