Analog Devices' New DSP Doubles Performance and Expands System I/O for Telecommunications Applications NORWOOD, Mass., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI - news), today announced the ADSP-2191, a 16-bit digital signal processor (DSP) operating at speeds up to 160 MHz, double the performance over the code- compatible ADSP-218x models. Designed for telecommunications applications, the ADSP-2191 on-chip interfaces support T1, E1, and H.100-based high- density systems, where DSPs enable speech compression and voice quality enhancement. The ADSP-2191, based on the ADSP-219x core, incorporates the same mathematical capabilities, algebraic assembly syntax and single-cycle computations found in all ADSP-21xx products. Code compatibility enables programmers to utilize the library of off-the-shelf software developed for previous models. The ADSP- 2191 allows service providers to improve voice quality in long distance, gateway and private networks. In addition, with a complete line of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) compatible software modules for the ADSP-219x series, this device is optimized to enable OEMs to deploy quality, cost effective and scalable next-generation voice convergent platforms to service providers. Telephony applications include echo cancellers, PBX gateways, ADPCM transcoders, VoIP gateways, remote access servers and DSL central office equipment.
