i think it will only be averted if the Fed makes another inter-meeting rate cut. otherwise, the degree of public participation argues strongly for a capitulation to mark an intermediate term bottom. note that stock market trading continues to run at 3.5 times GDP, mania like levels.

the final bottom will be more of the disinterest type, and it should be a process rather than an event.
