re: credit card vs. cash purchases:

It all depends on whether you pay the cc balance in full every month. The increased use of credit cards is worrisome, because so many people carry high balances.

I charge everything: groceries, phone bill, housekeeper, renting kayaks in Mexico, etc., etc. I hate paying in cash, because then I have these useless round pieces of metal left over (coins), that just collect in corners and gather dust. But, since I pay my cc balance in full every month, I pay nothing for the use of their money for several weeks. I suppose if a large enough fraction of customers did like I do, the cc companies would have to change the rules.
