Ted, BPA is announcing that electricity rates for the Northwest could rise by 250% unless customers drastically reduce power consumption. Threat or reality? Your thoughts, please.

They said something on the news tonite when I was at the gym but I only caught part of the story. What I heard is that the worse case scenario is a 300-500% increase and the best case is 100%. Best case, of course, sucks.

I am not sure what they are trying to accomplish but I can tell you there is no way that they would impose even a 100% increase...it would be heresy on several different levels.

In addition, while the snow pack is at 60% of normal, previous years have been above normal so that things are not that bad. Up here, they had said previously with a 5-10% conservation rate we should be able to get thru the summer without a problem.

I will let you know when I hear more.
