Ascential competitor HUMC warns for the second time in regard to results for the quarter ending 3/31/01:

Here are some excerpts:
Preliminary results for the quarter indicate that the uncertain macroeconomic environment has impacted the company's Host Access and Network Connectivity business more severely than was previously believed. In addition, similar forces have begun to impact Hummingbird's Enterprise Portal Solutions business, although to a lesser extent than in the Company's legacy connectivity business.
``Like most other enterprise software vendors, we witnessed a weaker-than- expected closure rate in the critical final days of the second quarter, despite earlier indications that these deals would be consummated,'' stated Fred Sorkin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He continued, ``the EIP business continues to grow; however, not at the pace we had previously forecast. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide more information when we announce the results of the quarter later this month.''
The final weeks of March also saw the weakening macroeconomic environment begin to affect IT spending patterns in Europe where, previously, the weakness had been confined to North America. Accordingly, while the problem is more pronounced in North America, a portion of the revenue shortfall stems from delayed deals in the Company's European business.
One wonders if Ascential, with Datastage and Axielle, is taking enough market share from its competitors during this tough time that IFMX will be able to make their numbers for 1Q01 and beyond. |
