I guess as Bush, you can be seen as weak aka Clinton, which may be short term beneficial to national interests. But it was that sort of policy that got Bush elected.

Or he could be seen as a throwback to the Cold War days. That would also be a mistake.

It is a fine line.

But I think chalu2 had it right. If we look at this calmly, China is not that attractive of an economy to invest in, and we really do not have anything to lose by being adult about this. And by that, I mean we must discipline out little brother.
