re: Large companies have a tremendous disadvantage because it's harder for them to grow an already large base, so they end up fighting the actual economy, yet they can't really do this, so they are more vulnerable to the overall economy. Large cos just can't respond as swiftly to changes.

Depends on the cash, cash flow and debt for the respective companies, and how long the slowdown lasts. A small company could be buried by a prolonged recession, a larger company might have the resources to ride it out.
