SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Dow Jones)--EarthShell Corp. (ERTH) signed an agreement with DuPont Co.'s (DD) DuPont Polyester unit to jointly develop and market additional forms of biodegradable food packaging.
In a press release Tuesday, EarthShell said it will work on sandwich wraps and protective coatings for biodegradable disposable food service packaging such as cups, plates and hinged-lid containers.
EarthShell will combine its desposable products with DuPont's Biomax hydrobiodegradable polyester coatings/films and technology.
The companies expect to deliver their new products to market by the Fall.
EarthShell's packaging products, which biodegrade in marine and composting environments, are made using technology that combines inorganics, such as limestone, with organics such as renewable starch.
Shares of DuPont recently traded at $44.53, up $1.07, or 2.5%, on New York Stock Exchange volume of 1.9 million shares. Average daily volume is 3.6 million shares.
EarthShell shares were trading on Nasdaq at $2.26, down 12 cents, or 5%, on volume of 518,300 shares. Average daily volume is 348,980 shares.
