i don't think asia would appreciate the us to slap china in the face, either. it is a no win situation unless one country decides to lose "face." who is it gonna be?

i vote for neither and long, drawn out confrontation. the chinese *really* need help in the diplomacy dept. you don't begin with a line in the sand. "we are right, you are wrong, no fess up" is not the best approach.
