I think it would take a lot more debt and not just negative GDP but massive negative GDP growth to cause the bankruptcy situation you suggest. I'm going to have to do some research on Inodnesia's trade deficit to GDP and maybe some other devaluation examples like Mexico and Turkey to get a better idea of how high the deficit has to be in order to spur a currency devaluation.
