Rick ...

The problem only manifests itself when I'm changing a hard drive, or attempting to get online using the cable on a box that is usually used with dial ups.

The fastest solution for me has been to leave the two boxes which run on cable ALL the time hooked up to "their" respective ISP addresses....
then have both phone ISPs to have icons on the desktops of all 5 boxes so that if necessary, I can use phone service on any of them.

The other three boxes will have "occasional" usage of cable and have NO cable ISP dedicated to them.

Then
IF
when
I decided to use cable on any of the three phone dedicated boxes, all I must do is the clik stream I listed ...
release the "binder"
renew and dedicate the binder to the new box
and remember to release the binder when I log off so it is ready to be EASILY installed back on the original .....

This is so easy NOW ...
and, of course, the same thing holds true when a new HD is installed in any box .... the cable only sees the HD .. not the machine ....

With your W2000, I have NO experience ... I installed it on two boxes right after it came out to use the dual processor capibility .... couldn't get that to function properly AT ALL .... and promptly disposed of W2k and the dualies.

I really can't see that 98SE did anything for me and if I didn't have all these pups running on SE, I'd attempt backwardation .......Actually, sometimes I wonder if I could go back and get W95 to handle multiple monitors ...... hmmmmmmmm

When I get finished building my own TIVO ***(and I'm really attempting that)I might set up Linux ..... hehehehe
