Ralfph, Actually, I’m grrre-at at quitting smoking. I do tend to go about some things in a rather elaborate fashion...and this is one of them. I have hunderds of strategies for quitting. I’ve been quitting smoking for years and am well practised in the craft.

But, I have never quit. That’s the thing...it’s the most addictive substance that I have ever been in contact with. And this contact, I know, must be stopped...Hercules, I’ve quit other things that shoulda been worse...ya’d think. But, I just lit up again now.

But...and it’s always the but...or the butt, I really can’t see myself going through a day without a cigarette. Honestly, until I can break through that barrier of the first day it’s not worth considering myself any closer to quitting. And, that is the face of the enemy.

When I said that this is one of those things that I’m becoming very elaborate with in its present incarnation, I meant it. So, I’ll add a printout of your “Do you really want to feel the warm rush of radio active slush running through your whole body?” from one of your posts there Ralfph to my growing collage along side of the bewildering stack of box top scary scalps and cigarette trading cards (bound in numerical order) that I’ve been collecting. One of the latest box tops has a picture of a heart that looks ready to explode on it, now that’s gotta be a collector’s item.

Those heart things can get a little spooky alright...I’ve spent some time rigged up to treadmills too. I never did figure out how running me until I dropped was helpful. I was refurbishing my log cabin for sale about ten years ago and doing a lot of dirt, rock, and tree work with lights rigged up so I could work longer hours with an approaching deadline when I had my first heart attack. But, with a nitroglycerine inhalator I got finished more or less on time. Those inhalator things are fun...ya feel like your head’s gonna explode as the nitro snaps open all your capilliaries at once. I ended up throwing mine in the bush.

I think you’re right on the walking, and we’re in the right part of the world for it. I try to get out as much as possible but I’ve got to quit having those soft ice cream cones on the way back...it’s just that my wolf/dog keeps talking me into it. He loves them as much as the ride in the car and the walk.

Congratulations on the Search and Rescue thing Ralfph...if I get lost out in your area this summer, give me a day to get through the first day of not smoking to come and get me. Actually, getting stuck in the bush for a few days has a certain appeal to it ‘bout now.
Come o-o-on campin’ time.

Happy Trails
Lenny
