I too was a etrader, but now is the time to move. Before they go broke.
I had all the experiences: lost funds, closed accounts, margin calls with 85% equity, deposits in wrong accounts, rude service, etrade losing orders for days, slow execution and all the while I asked myself why was I paying for all of this mistreatment
I moved over to DATEK and after etrade it's been heaven. Jes, act like they want your business, what concept, and by god it's one hell of a lot cheaper.
etrade is sending me a 48.00 bill for closing out my individual account. When I asked for an accounting statement, because I thought they had added the 50 bucks to the margin transfer, I was told that was privileged info. I just laughed and hung up.
I have told friends to move and they act like I am deceiving them. I'm not; Datek doesn't beat their customers with a rubber hose and tell them it's good for them.
Do it, move to any other broker. Get out while you can.
