Briefing.com discusses how MOT earnings are really worse than they appear:

Motorola (MOT) 13.00 +1.50: Some confusion over MOT's numbers, as
company changed its reporting method at the last minute... Reported loss of
$0.09 excludes goodwill, whereas company used to report results including
goodwill... Our checks indicate that consensus estimate of ($0.07) included
goodwill... Sources telling us that if goodwill charges put back into the MOT
number, quarterly loss would be more like $0.13 or $0.14... In other
words, even worse than they look now.
