I've been online with Meghana, of expertcity.com! She told me to boot in safe mode-- these were her instructions.

Meghana: 1)reboot your pc
Meghana: 2)Press f5 key just before windows screen appears which will take you in safe mode where only few drivers load
Meghana: 3)Perform Scandisk (with Thorough option selected)
Meghana: 4)After scandisk run Defrag in safe mode itself
Meghana: 5)Reboot your pc in normal way

But for some reason I thought I was told that safe mode was not the right thing?...

wait.

That was DOS. I got them mixed up.

This is humiliating.

Moving right along.

...what i'm doing here right now is that I keep trying to get into safe mode and can't.

Meghana said i would know when it was in safe mode because the corners of my screen would say Safe Mode.

She told me to get to safe mode either by clicking the f5 key right before the ME window came up, or by, as soon as I turned on my computer, to click the f8 key.

I've done that repeatedly, but i'm not in safe mode. At least there's nothing indicating i am. I keep starting up my computer over and over trying to get into safe mode!

Can anyone here tell me why i'm not in safe mode? I mean, like, now?

BTW, Meghana did start, run, msconfig, ok, and removed a LOT of things.

The technology is amazing. She took over my desktop, she moved the mouse. I couldn't believe what i was seeing.

Her charge was ten dollars.

If I can get into safe mode, i'll be able to do the scan disk, then the defrag...

i hope.

Safe mode hints?

EDIT: I should mention that I couldn't run Scandisk because of the "another application writing to the hard disk" message.

And I reread what you wrote. It says "DOS." Is that the same as safe mode? (BTW, I put "Safe mode" into help, and no topics were found.)

Edit P.S. She didn't mention "and run Ndd.exe"...
