I can't say there was a visible reaction to the BSD acquisition from the Linux folks, but they were all aware of it. Most that I talked to thought it was probably good for WRS and corroborates their (open source) business model. Several had a "wait and see whether WRS can integrate BSD" attitude. But several were skeptical whether the BSD community will support the acquisition. Business for MontaVista and others is doing well these days and they are not afraid of increased competition. It's interesting that Insignia is also doing good business with Linux and Windows CE. They expect the WRS connection to be a big plus for the company.

Elizabeth, PTSC is looking pretty good too. They are just starting to roll out their marketing. They have a low cost solution for both processing and communication. Their markets are industrial controls, gateways (everyone is into gateways!) automotive, office equipment and networking.

I'd say companies are feeling a pinch from the recession, but they are not hurting too bad. Plus, the increased bandwidth from DSL is bringing a lot of new designs forward.
