Ga Peach:

A pair of Western Bluebirds has chosen a hole in one of our Blue Oaks to nest in this year for the first time.

The male, beautifully bright blue, seems to have taken a dislike to our house. He flies up to the many windows and pecks away. We know he's there when we hear the knocks on the glass. He is not mistaking his own image as a trespasser, as one might think. since he has moved his angst to our front driveway pecking away at our car and leaving droppings all over the body.

Sometimes when I present myself at the window, it hardly deters him but he usually takes off after a few moments.

This reminds me of the episode of a few years ago with Burrowing Owls in an abandoned service station. There was a deep concrete opening left by some removed pipe connection; I had noticed an owl fly out and perch on a nearby overhead telephone line. Being curious I went over to look inside the hole just as the female flew out. Stooping over I began to search the opening when I received a terrific whack on my head. Turning around quickly I saw the owl returning to the perch up on the wire where they both continued to glare at me. I got the message. Luckily for me, I was wearing my usual baseball cap.
