why is there so much excitement about CDMA moving in on China?

The simple (and probably correct) answer to that question is that most SI investors are Americans....and the companies that would benefit from a CDMA network are in the US (particuarly QCOM, but also LU/MOT). Long-term....the Chinese are attempting to develop their own infrastructure industry, and CDMA is viewed as the most likely path to success.

Some additional GPRS stats from the MOT CC....they have shipped a total of 180,000 handsets with 90,000 coming during the March quarter. They expect GPRS unit sales of 5m during the second half of the year.
