Joseph of SSB..who called the semi bottom last year (only WS analyst to do so)...thinks now that chips "may" have bottomed, and has upgraded semis to outperform... Until now, he has consistently looked for an August bottom in fundamentals, stocks sometime after that....His timing today is a bit weird, given he was ultra-negative until 2 days ago (came out strong that semis were still in dumps), and he dissed Intel's quarter last Friday.... That's why the stocks zoomed up today....futures were not up much before his call...
