Jack: That is a problem with SHORTS in a fast moving market. Remember that a SHORT trade can only be executed by a broker on an UP TICK. If the market is falling, your trade may not go through even if you specified a price below the current level. If you don't get an up tick, the price could pass through the price level you specified. Whereas there is no such rule for buying on the LONG side. So SHORTING in a down trend is not the same as going long in an up trend in terms of execution. GH
